Georgia to host historic Snow Volleyball European Tour event in Bakuriani
2018 CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour

Luxembourg, January 15, 2018. The 2018 edition of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour will feature one additional stop on top of the five announced a while ago – with Georgia’s most popular skiing resort Bakuriani set to host an event on February 24-25, 2018. With the European Tour stop, an international event takes place in Georgia only a few months after the Caucasus country hosted one of the preliminary pools of the 2017 women’s EuroVolley.

The Georgian Volleyball Federation have confirmed their plans to host such historic event in Bakuriani, a village and a skiing resort in the Borjomi district. Bakuriani is located on the northern slope of the Trialeti range, at an elevation of 1,700 meters above sea level.

The region around Bakuriani is famous for the surrounding forests. The resort lies 30 km from Borjomi. Bakuriani is the most known skiing resort in Georgia; it has been a fancy destination since the 50s and remains extremely popular among locals and foreign tourists as well.

Shortly after the European Tour stop, Bakuriani will be hosting also the Georgian Snow Volleyball national championship. The competition will feature a double elimination system, and a single elimination if less than 12 teams eventually register for participation. The national championship will feature minimum six teams per gender, with the eventual winners qualifying for the first ever Snow Volleyball European Championship due to take place from March 23 to 25 in Wagrain-Kleinarl and Flachau, Austria.
