Moscow event breaks new ground for Snow Volleyball
CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2019 - Moscow

Moscow, Russia, December 21, 2018. Friday’s programme of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2019 stop in Moscow included many exciting matches and a press conference as well – attended by officials and some of the high-profile athletes competing in the Russian capital. The event at Vodny stadium is a truly historic one in many ways – with the new rules of the game entering into force with three players standing on each side of the net for the first time in history.

“The Moscow tournament coincides with a new stage in the development of this young sport as we have never seen anything of this magnitude for Snow Volleyball previously,” said Mr Dennis Passig, CEV Snow Volleyball Coordinator. “The organisers are delivering an event of the highest level, from this great stadium to the logistics, meals and accommodation, not to mention the media coverage. We would like to thank the Russian Volleyball Federation and the local organisers for their help in taking Snow Volleyball to the next level.”

“We are pleased to host so many guests and all participating teams. We have tried to make this tournament a real festival for everyone, for the fans as well as for the players,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Dinamo City Organisation, Sergey Fedorov. “Dinamo has always supported many sports and we are happy to host the Snow Volleyball community. We would like to make this an annual event, but first we have to deliver this tournament and analyse how things go.”

USA Volleyball superstar Lloy Ball together with Russian player Olga Motrich.

2008 Olympic champion Lloy Ball is one of the major stars competing in Moscow. “I happily accepted the offer to take part in this interesting tournament. I remember that wonderful time when I played here in Russia for six years. Unfortunately, my Russian is not so good now (laughs). It is great that Volleyball develops and that new disciplines such as Snow Volleyball are developing. Honestly, I have never trained with the new ball, and even more so in the snow, so everything will be new,” said Ball, who eventually finished the competition with Team USA in ninth place.
