Moscow, Russia, December 15, 2018. The organisers of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour stop in Moscow are working hard to prepare in the best way for a truly history-making event in the Russian capital. The centre court of Vodny stadium (pictured), with a capacity of 2,600 seats, accounts for the largest venue to have ever hosted a Snow Volleyball competition. As a result, the European Tour event in the Russian capital is a special one.

The weather conditions are also on the side of the organisers. Temperatures have dropped below 0° C and the court personnel have been working on an equal mix of artificial and natural snow for the courts where some of the top Snow Volleyball players will be performing from Thursday to Saturday of next week.


The tribunes at the side courts can fit an additional 600 people.

The ‘digital home of European Volleyball’, i.e. EuroVolleyTV, will be streaming all semi-finals and medal matches due to take place on Saturday, December 22.

The Moscow event will be a truly historic one in many ways, but especially since for the first time three players will be standing on each side of the net. Some experienced Snow Volleyball players such as reigning European champion Ruslan Daianov of Russia or multiple ‘King of the Snow’ Michal Matyja of Poland will have to adjust to this major change to the rules of the game.

It will be interesting to see how teams will perform in this format. The anticipation for the Moscow event is mounting overseas as well and especially in the United States since 2008 Olympic champion Lloy Ball has come out of retirement to test his skills on the snow in the Russian capital.
