BR Volleys want to capitalise on historic chance in CEV Cup semis
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Berlin, Germany, March 18, 2016. After their tie-break win over Knack ROESELARE in the first semi-final match contested on Tuesday night in Belgium, the BERLIN Recycling Volleys have a real chance to make it to the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men finals. However, edging the Belgian standout once more on Saturday night will demand everything from the home side. The eventual winners of this clash will be playing Russia’s Dinamo MOSCOW or Gazprom-Ugra SURGUT in the last stage of Europe’s second most prestigious club competition.

Doing well in reception and defence, as well as putting pressure with their serves and smart attacks, the Belgians forced the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League bronze medallists to perform at the highest level. Trailing 1-2 after three sets, the German cup winners however did not slacken their grip, and eventually it was Felix Fischer who closed a two-hour match at 15-10 for BERLIN.

“We experienced what this opponent is capable of,” BERLIN Recycling Volleys head coach Roberto Serniotti says, adding: “It will be another tight match this Saturday. Still, everything is possible, even though we could score an important win on Tuesday. We have to go out with the same fighting spirit and play with the same energy, and if we do so, we will have a chance to make it to the finals.”

Even though yet another golden set win may pave the way to the CEV Cup Final for the home side after the Germans went through the same path in the Challenge Round fixture with Finland’s VaLePa SASTAMALA, the Italian mentor does not want to reckon with this scenario. “The team has improved over the five sets played in Belgium, every player was able to perform at his highest level – that is the attitude I want to see again on Saturday – but I am sure the guys are aware of the chance they have and will perform accordingly!”
