Yamamay takes first round of Italian derby to get closer to the final
2012 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Busto Arsizio, Italy, March 13, 2012. Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO claimed tonight the first round in the semifinals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women by edging the compatriots of Robur Tiboni URBINO 3:1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14). With their opposite Ivana Djerisilo being forced to leave the court after getting injured, the guests and 2011 champions of Robur Tiboni were well anchored in the opening set by Juliann Faucette before Yamamay imposed its rhythm, with a terrific 12:0 break in set 4 claimed on a serving turn of Aneta Havlickova.
Yamamay scored tonight a total of 10 aces (5 for Havlickova, 4 for Havelkova and 1 for Marcon) and 11 blocks, with Aneta Havlickova pacing her side with 27 points. The return game is scheduled for this Saturday in Urbino with Yamamay having to play first one round of the Playoffs in the national league against Asystel NOVARA.
“We start feeling tired” says Francesca Marcon after the match. “”We did not open that well tonight while URBINO pressured with the service and we somehow had troubles to find our own pace. We did not defend as well as we are used to but we gradually improved our service and I think that this was the turning point of the match. We first have to play NOVARA and then we will prepare for the return match in Urbino, which will be a tough and extremely important game”.
“We had some ups and downs but once we found our play, we did show some good Volleyball” stresses home coach Carlo Parisi. “URBINO is a good team, regardless if they play with Djerisilo or Faucette as their opposite. I think the serving turn of Havlickova was just fantastic but we are already thinking about our next match with NOVARA”.
