Knokke-Heist poised to play host to historic World Tour event on Belgian coast
2019 World Tour 1-Star - Knokke-Heist
Knokke-Heist, Belgium, August 15, 2019. This weekend, it will be history in the making for Belgian Beach Volleyball as the country is making its debut as a brand new FIVB 1-Star World Tour host. The Organising Committee has already built up a strong reputation as Volleyball Nations League and European Golden League hosts, after playing host to several stops of the FIVB World League before and a Women’s EuroVolley in 2015. From today on, they take it a step further and they hit the sand at Knokke-Heist.
“Many teams applied for a place in this tournament,” says Organising Director Geert De Dobbeleer. “Even though this is our first such organisation, this has become an extremely popular tournament straight away. Teams from all over the world are entering the qualification or main draw. We have teams from Brazil, Canada, Israel, Japan and even Uruguay competing in the men’s tournament.”
“The same is happening at the other side of the table, in the women’s tournament with players from Australia and New Zealand, Colombia and Paraguay, USA or Iceland. Teams from every continent found their way to our event here at Knokke-Heist,” stated De Dobbeleer.
All those teams are bringing experience and much enthusiasm. The organisers are expecting four days filled with high-level matches and teams that will fight for every single point.
