12/07/2017 12:59 Siófok set to turn into Beach Volleyball ‘Mecca’ 2017 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Siófok, Hungary, July 12, 2017. From Thursday to Sunday, the largest international Beach Volleyball competition to have ever taken place in Hungary will draw everyone’s attention in Siófok. One day before the competition gets underway a press conference took place at the local Beach Arena of Siófok. The city will play host to a double-gender CEV Satellite with prize money standing at € 8,000 and to one of eight tournaments on schedule for the qualifying stage of the 2017-2018 CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Continental Cup, the event determining the European teams that will eventually compete at next year’s Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. CEV Technical Supervisor Herwin Brillemans addressed the media in attendance: “We are very satisfied with the preparations. The CEV are willing to organise Beach Volleyball competitions in more countries and that is why we were so happy with Hungary’s application and their plans for this event.” The Secretary General of the Hungarian Volleyball Association Zsolt Ludvig spoke to the media as well: “It is a huge opportunity for the Hungarian teams to collect FIVB and CEV ranking points because without such points it is impossible to take part in any international competitions. The Hungarian Volleyball Association hopes that with this competition Beach Volleyball teams from Hungary will be able to get more international exposure.” Dr Agnes Banki, the president of the Hungarian Beach Volleyball Association and of the Leisure Volleyball Committee emphasised that the organisers have been working hard to help Beach Volleyball gain more popularity and make it to the same level as in some other countries. “This tournament is the very first step in this direction. We are planning to host such kind of event every year. I am grateful to the Hungarian Football Association who have provided us with their support for this event and with access to the local Beach Arena.” Hungary coach Balázs Buday concluded: “We have a deficit of decades compared to other nations, especially because they have many players they can choose from. Therefore, we do not have any specific expectations from our teams but we will be trying to achieve the best results we can.” Click here for further information
