Siófok poised to host largest ever Beach Volleyball competition on Hungarian soil

Siófok, Hungary, July 10, 2017. Hungary and the Hungarian Volleyball Association will be hosting later this week the largest international Beach Volleyball competition to have taken place in this country. The city of Siófok will indeed play host to a double-gender CEV Satellite tournament from Thursday, July 13 to Sunday, July 16. The participating teams will be fighting for a share of the € 8,000 prize money at stake as well as for valuable FIVB and CEV ranking points. At the same time, Siófok will be hosting one of eight pools on schedule for the qualifying stage of the 2017-2018 CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

Hungary will enter four teams per gender in the CEV Satellite and compete in the youth event as well, with one team per gender. The entrance to the venue will be free.

The tournament will get underway on Thursday with the qualification round featuring inter alia two Hungarian teams, one per gender, fighting for a spot in the Main Draw. The main stage of the competition starring 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams will commence on Friday with matches schedule to continue until 9 pm. The winners of the women’s tournament will emerge on Saturday whilst the men’s competition will reach its climax on Sunday. The fans can look forward to witnessing the action of the best Hungarian teams as well as of some of the top European pairs.

Dr Agnes Banki, the chair of the Hungarian Beach Volleyball Association and Leisure Volleyball Committee looks forward to the event. “The main goal is to bring Beach Volleyball closer to the Hungarian people and to make the best out of this opportunity; the fans will be able to see some of the best athletes in the game as they compete on Hungarian sand,” she said. “On top of this, the tournament is also a huge opportunity for the best Hungarian teams to collect ranking points and to make it a step closer to the European elite. We hope that lots of people will show their interest in this competition.”
