2004 Olympic silver medallist Bosma among lecturers for coaching workshop
2017 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship

Luxembourg, May 29, 2017. Next to the much-anticipated tournament featuring Europe’s most promising and talented Beach Volleyball players, the programme for the 2017 edition of the CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship in Baden, Austria includes a coaching workshop with 2004 Olympic silver medallist Javier Bosma from Spain and Stefan Hömberg from Austria as the main lecturers.

Bosma (pictured) has a wealth of experience in the business since he spent more than 10 years as a professional Beach Volleyball player, with the highlight of his career coming in 2004 at the Olympics in Athens where he won the silver medal along with Pablo Herrera. Bosma is also a silver medallist from the 1994 and 1999 editions of the European Beach Volleyball Championship, an achievement he shared with Santiago Aguilera and Fabio Diez, respectively.

After retiring from competitive sport, Bosma has become a highly qualified coach and since 2012 he has been working as the Beach Volleyball Technical Director at the Universidad de Alicante in his home country. He has also worked as Spain’s youth national team head coach from 2013 and assisted the senior teams as well in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics in London. Bosma will introduce the ‘psychological and emotional aspects of the game as well as their impact on the decision making process’ to an audience including coaches from a wide range of European countries.

The second lecturer, Stefan Hömberg, has been coaching the Austrian youth Beach Volleyball national teams for more than 15 years – and since he started working with young players back in the late 1990s, he has helped his students win as many as 18 medals from European and World underage Championships! With a background including coaching positions at the Austrian and German Volleyball Federations, Hömberg will discuss the ‘development of individual tactical skills among young Beach Volleyball players’.

The coaching workshop will take place on June 17-18, 2017, i.e. on the two final competition days in Baden, and will focus on preparing athletes so that they can smoothly complete their transition from age-group competitions to the senior level. The clinic is open to coaches from countries with teams participating in the #EuroBeachVolleyU22 as well as from National Federations without any representation in the tournament.

This action further testifies and cements the CEV’s commitment to educating coaches and members of the Volleyball family in general in an effort to share knowledge and lay the foundations for the development of the next generation of Beach Volleyball players.
