Czech teams leave their mark on #EuroBeachVolleyU18 opening day
2016 CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship

Brno, Czech Republic, August 12, 2016. The 2016 edition of the CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championship started on Thursday in Brno with two rounds of matches contested in the pool phase of the competition which is being held in the second largest city of the Czech Republic.

Home favourites Matyas Dzavoronok/Jiri Sedlak and Martina Maixnerova/Marie-Sara Stochlova started their campaign by recording two wins. Top-seeded Dzavoronok and Sedlak first beat Romania’s Sergiu-Octavian Rodina/Tihamer Katona 21-15, 21-10 and later in the day they were made work hard for their second win in the tournament over Sweden’s Daniel Gruvaeus/Oskar von Sydow 2-1 (21-17, 21-23, 15-11).

Maixnerova and Stochlova achieved a similar feat and did even better since they did not drop a set in their matches with Denmark’s Clara Windeleff/Sofia Nørager Bisgaard and Tatsiana Kholad/Darya Auramchyk of Belarus. Stochlova is trying to use the home-court advantage to improve on the bronze medal she won last year in Riga along with Tereza Kotlasova.

Jakub Rulisek and Tadeas Tezzele added another two wins to the count of the host country’s teams as they beat teams from Poland and Greece in their respective pool.

The group stage of the championship comes to an end on Friday with the last set of matches.
