CEV Satellite Mersin continues with closely contested fixtures
2017 CEV Beach Volleyball Satellite - Mersin

Mersin, Turkey, July 28, 2017. The second day of the double-gender CEV Satellite in Mersin provided the audience in attendance with some closely contested games – with eight men’s and eight women’s teams still chasing the medals at the end of a long day. A large crowd turned out at Mersin Marina as well as at Fenerbahce Square to follow the matches and especially to cheer for the young Turkish teams competing on home sand.

Home star Murat Giginoglu, a silver medal winner from last week’s CEV Masters tournament in Ljubljana, commented after he and partner Safa Urlu lost their opening match to Florian Schnetzer and Peter Eglseer of Austria: “It was a good match but we did not win the end. We should have emerged victorious from that match but we are still alive in the competition and we will focus on the next matches. I very much hope that we will win the matches to come. I have been to Mersin before and won gold at the 2013 Mediterranean Games here [together with his former partner Selcuk Sekerci]. As a result, Mersin is a very special place for me. I love this city and I am excited to be here again. I just hope we will finish this tournament with a good result.”
