Baden, Austria, June 19, 2017.  A CEV Beach Volleyball coaching workshop took place at the venue of the 2017 CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship presented by SPORT.LAND.NÖ during the last two days of competition in Baden with Javier Bosma from Spain and Stefan Hömberg from Austria as the main lecturers.

Many of the coaches, whose young teams were taking part in #EuroBeachVolleyU22, took this opportunity to participate in this workshop, but there were also coaches who travelled to Austria especially for the clinic from as far as Azerbaijan, Northern Ireland, Wales, etc.

The two-day event contained both a theoretical and a practical part. While the main topic of the workshop was young players’ psychology, the over 20 participants were eager to network with each other, absorb all kinds of useful knowledge from the other attendees, as well as share their own professional experiences.

“First of all, I have to say that it has been a great idea from the CEV to organise this activity, because we, as coaches, do not have many opportunities to have this kind of meetings and share ideas and points of view. This is the way for us to grow as a coaching community,” said 2004 Olympic silver medallist and two-time European Championship silver medallist Javier Bosma, who has been a top-level Beach Volleyball coach in Spain since 2012.

“This workshop went quite well, with so many coaches participating, and I think I was able to give them quite useful information. We can learn from everyone, because every coach has different experiences that he can share with his colleagues. In the end, we are all winning. I was telling them that we need to be in contact more and more often. I also learnt many things myself. This has been my first workshop outside Spain and in English, so it has been a great experience for me as well,” Bosma added.

“This workshop was about sharing – sharing knowledge, sharing experience…,” Stefan Hömberg, who has been coaching the Austrian youth Beach Volleyball national teams for more than 15 years, agreed. “There were many experienced coaches sharing their super tips – the tricks that they use in order to make players better. Most of us have known each other for some time and we are all very interested in learning from each other. For sure, such workshops make sense as they are very good for newcomers to the game of Beach Volleyball.”
