SNOWWOMAN
Presenting Snow Volleyball star Lilija Frelik

Lilija Frelik was born on April 6, 1992 in Vilnius, Lithuania. She started playing indoor Volleyball at the age of 10, eventually playing in Lithuania’s first division. She decided to switch to Beach Volleyball, but trained professionally for only one year. The 177-cm-tall athlete discovered Snow Volleyball in 2019 and her first international events were the three stops on the inaugural World Tour in Austria, Italy and Argentina. Since the beginning of the 2020 season, Frelik and her Lithuanian teammates have medalled at all three stops on the European Tour so far – silver at Tsakhkadzor and bronze at Bakuriani and Donovaly. At the event in Slovakia, she was named MVP of the tournament. As a team member of SK Auksma Vilnius, she also earned a silver medal at the EEVZA tournament in Druskininkai, Lithuania in early February. Frelik and her teammate Svetlana Bekis-Sturo, the two players that have been on the Lithuanian squad at all three European Tour stops this year, have collected 250 points each and are the current leaders in the race for the 2020 Queen of the Snow title, with one event to go. They also share the number four position in the CEV European Ranking.

Lilija Frelik in attack during her Snow Volleyball World Tour debut at Wagrain-Kleinarl

Lilija Frelik: “I was born in Vilnius, but our family moved to Salcininkai when I was six years old. It’s a small, but beautiful town with beautiful people. Why I love this town so much is because exactly there I started playing Volleyball, when I was a 10-year-old kid. At the age of 18, I moved back to Vilnius where I studied and played in the first national league, regularly winning medals with the Tauras Sports School. A few years later, I got a proposal to train with the national Beach Volleyball team at the Auksma Beach Volleyball Club, the best in Lithuania. After one year I decided to quit, because of my job, but I still keep going to practice there. In 2019 my teammate Svetlana Bekis-Sturo suggested that we participate in the Snow Volleyball World Tour events in Wagrain and Kronplatz and we did it! Since then Svetlana and I have played at all FIVB and CEV tournaments and I am very happy when I get the podium with my teammates! I was also very excited to receive my first Snow Volleyball MVP award at Donovaly. More than that, I am proud of my team. We all are full-time employees and we don’t have any sponsors, but we all dedicated a lot of time, money, work and training to have all that success. I always liked the winter, but more than everything I love Volleyball, and when it’s two in one, it’s totally amazing! I can’t even describe the feeling when you are on top of the mountains and play Snow Volleyball, but it’s totally insane! That feeling of freedom and the amazing views make my heart melt. I find myself in Snow Volleyball and I would never choose any other option now. My main goal for this year is to qualify for the European Championship in April. After that I hope to get a chance to participate in a World Championship...”
