Teams rise to the occasion on second day of Snow Tour in Tsakhkadzor
CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2020

Tsakhkadzor, Armenia, February 4, 2020. The weather proved to be very cold and the snowfall continued throughout the second day of competition at the first stop of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour in Armenia. And yet tough conditions and cold temperatures did not discourage the teams entering the court as they delivered interesting and intense matches. The Snow Tour grasped the attention of tourists and local residents alike who followed the snow volleyball action on Tuesday - for many it was the first experience with the sport.

The first match, played between Russia’s Bakhnar, Kuzmin and Smorchkov and the hosting team Melkonyan, Ambaryan and Asmaryan, proved to be a quick business with Russia winning 2-0 (15-7, 15-7). Belgians Van Haesendonck, De Raedt and Van der Aa and Romania’s Mehedinteanu, Necula and Draghici delivered an interesting match and an exciting third set (20-18), with Belgium taking the final win 2-1.

The court was taken over by the women’s competition in the afternoon with an all-host duel between Kasis, Galustyan, Yeprikyan and Melqumyan/Poghosyan/Hayrapetyan teams. The first team came out victorious. Five more matches were played on the women’s side, while the men’s competition came back on court in the evening with Round 2. The majority of the matches ended in three sets, extending the action until 23:30. Despite the cold weather, the local fans continued to watch the fierce competition between battling teams.

The last match of the day belonged to Romanian Mehedinteanu, Necula and Draghici and the hosts Melkonyan, Ambaryan and Asmaryan. Both teams fought hard, delivering the highest score of the competition, with the second set going until 22-24 for the Armenian side. The Romanians came back in the third set to win 2-1.

The final day of the competition will begin at 09:00 am local time with men teams entering Round 3. The women’s competition returns in the afternoon, bringing semi-finals between Lithuania and Armenia as well as Russia and Romania.
