Tsakhkadzor prepares for the Snow Tour 2020 opener!
CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2020
Tsakhkadzor, Armenia, January 2, 2020. The CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour returns with the first event taking place in Tsakhkadzor. The tournament will be hosted in Armenia for the first time in history, in one of the most popular health and ski resorts in the Caucasus country.
The season opener comes a few days after first ever EEVZA Snow Volleyball event hosted in Tsakhkadzor. The host country celebrated victories, taking home gold and bronze medals in the men’s competition, while reigning ‘Queen of the Snow’ Olga Motrich from Russia dominated the women’s event. The hosts are now moving their focus onto the European Tour, where they will be facing teams from Belgium, France, Georgia, Iran, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Switzerland.
Seven women teams will be competing for the first trophy of the season, while the Main Draw of 16 teams in the men’s competition is yet to be finalised as four teams will play the Qualification phase with two best teams going further into the next phase. Most of the competing teams have practised on the tournament courts over the weekend, checking the conditions in Armenia. The weather proves to be favourable, but more snow is expected to fall throughout the event.
Prior to the competition, Tsakhkadzor hosted a Kids Festival to promote snow volleyball among the youngest visitors in town. Italian Snow Volleyball player Giorgio Amorosi and Russian Olga Motrich, who won the EEVZA Snow Volleyball event hosted in Tsakhkadzor a couple of days earlier, led the Festival teaching kids about the art of snow volleyball.
Amorosi is one among the players of one of the two Italian teams competing in Armenia.
The tournament begins on Monday February 3rd and continues until Wednesday, when a Player’s Party will be held to wrap up the first in history Snow Volleyball European Tour event in Armenia.
