CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2020

Luxembourg, January 28, 2020.  Welcome to the first issue of Snow Weekly, CEV’s weekly digest of news from the world of the exciting winter discipline, set to come out every Tuesday throughout the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour season.



SNOWFLAKES

• An FIVB Snow Volleyball Festival with the participation of some legendary names from the world of Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball was held in Bretaye, Switzerland on January 19 and 20 in conjunction with World Snow Day, as hundreds of young children and families tried out the cool new winter sport. • The newly-formed FIVB Snow Volleyball Commission met for the first time at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne last week. Chaired by FIVB President Ary Graça, the Commission reflected on the success of Snow Volleyball so far, discussed its strategy for the future and confirmed that the FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour calendar will be announced later this year, while the first-ever FIVB Snow Volleyball World Championships are due to take place in 2021.

• Russia was the first country to hold a Snow Volleyball national championship this year. At the Hillpark ski resort in the city of Lipetsk, the team of Moscow won the men’s title and the team of Spartak Bryansk triumphed as women’s champions. Read more…

• The men’s team of FIMA became national champions of Armenia at the event held from January 16 through 18 in Tsakhkadzor. The women’s title went to the team of Van-1. Read more…

• FIPAV, the national federation of Italy, announced the first edition of the Italian Snow Volleyball National Championship with venue and dates yet to be determined. In addition to producing the first national champions of the southern European country, the event will determine Italy’s representatives at the 2020 CEV Snow Volleyball European Championship.

• The Romanian women’s national team (Iustina Corcoz, Alexia Bradatan, Catinca Ilie and Madalina Sandu) are preparing for the first two stops on the European Tour under the guidance of coach Ifrim Razvan at a Snow Volleyball camp in Azuga, where the Romanian national championship is set to take place between February 20 and 23.

• France announced the roster of their national team for the upcoming European Tour. Daniel Petrov, Iskander El-Ghouti and Julien Saint-Vanne will play at the first two stops, after which they will be also joined by Nico Salmon.

• FFVB, the national federation of France, announced the creation of a France Snow-Volley Tour with the first three stops scheduled on February 22 - 23 in Merdassier (Manigod), March 7 - 8 in Gresse-en-Vercors and March 13 - 15 in Super Besse (Sancy).

• The second CEV Snow Volleyball Winter Festival took place, this time in Yerevan. On five playing courts, the hosts from VFA, the national federation of Armenia, gave local children a great opportuinity to get acquainted with Snow Volleyball. Read more…

• The first CEV Snow Volleyball Winter Festival was held a couple of weeks ago in Lipetsk in Russia with as many as 120 children participating. Read more...



SNOW PATH

• Within the next seven days, the first of seven announced stops on the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2020 is set to get underway in Tsakhkadzor, the first ever on Armenian territory. It will take place from February 3 through 5 with the participation of 18 men’s and seven women’s teams, representing 12 different nations – 11 CEV member countries and Iran. Total prize money of 6,000 euros will be distributed in the double-elimination format tournament across both genders. As many as 10 of the top 11 players in the individual men’s CEV Entry Ranking have registered to compete on Armenian snow. So has Russian Snow Volleyball star Olga Motrich, who won two gold medals on the 2019 World Tour and another two gold medals on the 2019 European Tour to be crowned 'Queen of the Snow'.

• Before hosting the European Tour event, Tsakhkadzor will welcome the participants in the first stop on the EEVZA Snow Volleyball Zonal Eastern European Tour, which will take place on January 29. EEVZA have announced one more Snow Volleyball tournament this week – in Druskininkai, Lithuania on February 1 and 2.
