German indoor star Maren Brinker thinks Snow Volleyball
2016 CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour
Kronplatz / Plan de Corones, Italy, April 3, 2016. Germany’s Volleyball star Maren Brinker is among the VIP guests at the Kronplatz / Plan de Corones stop of the 2016 CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour. She has already decided to play on the beach this summer, but is also contemplating joining the Snow Volleyball Tour next season.
The Best Server of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League, who currently plays for Italy’s Metalleghe Sanitars MONTICHIARI, was invited to attend the snow battles in the Italian Alps by one of the Tour’s sponsors, Amway. “Amway is also my sponsor, so they invited me to enjoy this event and to see what it is like playing on the snow. There was also the opportunity for me to play, but since I am still in my indoor season, it would have been a little too risky,” Brinker explains her presence.
“It is a really nice experience to be here and watch some Snow Volleyball. I can already see that it is different. They are sliding a little bit on the snow, so they have to make sure they keep their balance. I would really like to try it one day. I don’t know whether I will be good, but it is something new, so I want to try it at least,” adds the 29-year-old athlete.
FIVB World Grand Prix bronze medallist from 2009, two-time CEV European Championship silver medallist (in 2011 and 2013) and 2013 CEV Volleyball European League gold medallist with the national team of Germany, as well as 2012 Italian Super Cup winner with Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO – these are among the many honours Maren Brinker has assembled in her Volleyball showcase. However, she has never made it to the Olympic Games. “Since I haven’t played indoor Volleyball at the Olympics, Snow Volleyball, if it becomes an Olympic sport, might be a chance for me to have that experience as an athlete.”
Since there is no big event for their national team this upcoming summer, Maren and Germany’s setter Kathleen Weiss have already made the decision to take a break from indoor Volleyball and partner up on the beach. “Let’s see how we do on the sand and maybe Snow Volleyball will be next,” she concludes.
