Luxembourg, February 21, 2021. The second and final day of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour began early on Sunday morning. 8 women teams and 6 for men battled to reach the first seasonal final of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour 2021 in Wagrain.
In the women's tournament the two Hungarian teams faced Czech Republic 1 and Austria respectively to earn a place in the semifinals. The first match deciding the name of the first finalist was a Czech derby, where the team of Frommova, Safrankova and Marcelova emerged victorious after an intense match that ended 2-1 (12-15, 20-18, 15-10) .
Total balance also in the second match that saw Turkey and Austria face off with the Turkish team reaching the Czechs in the final after beating their opponents in the tie break (11-15, 15-11, 15-7). The final was a one-way match, Turkey stopped Czech Republic 1 at 5 points in the first set and at 10 in the second. Gokalp, Merve C. and Yalcin stand on top of the first podium of the 2021 snow volleyball season.
The men's tournament resumed with the quarter-finals that rewarded Russia, Italy 1, Ukraine and Austria. The first semifinal between Ukraine and the home team sees the Austrians win by 2-0 (15-9, 15-12). Same story in semifinal 2 in which Russia imposed their game and defeated the Italian team 2-0 (15-10, 15-7).
Ukraine eventually took the third step of the podium after beating Italy 2-0 in the third place final (15-11, 15-11). The men's final Austria vs Russia is a continuous head-to-head, especially in the second set where the two teams fought for each point - with Russia eventually equalising to call for a tie-break. The gold medal eventually went to Russia, with their team including 2018 Snow Volleyball European champion Ruslan Daianov.
