Luxembourg, March 11, 2021. The long awaited snow volleyball
tournaments that took place in Wagrain, Austria in the second part of February
were a success story on multiple levels, with fans and players alike
contributing to the sports’ continuously growing appeal. For the first time in
Snow Volleyball, Wagrain also offered the opportunity for the CEV to implement the
E-scoresheet system and the challenge was accepted.
The E-Scoresheet developed by
Genius Sports has been used for indoor volleyball for a couple of years already,
with upgrades implemented along the way, collecting data from matches and
feeding it to the CEV and FIVB as a first step to then reach the fans via the
front end of our platforms.
When it comes to Snow Volleyball, the use of E-scoresheets for the first time meant that data was now being collected in real time, representing a switch to a new system that improves user experience through a cloud based technology that offers more flexibility and reliability and a better insight into what is happening on the court.
Interface of the E-Scoresheet
In order to ensure a smooth
implementation, the CEV representatives on site in Wagrain ensured the training
of 10 people for the first tournament, maintaining at the same time the paper
scoresheets. The success of this first attempt was measured with the help of
feedback received from the users, the referees and the supervisor on site and
measured also via a successful integration into the Competition Management
System.
The second snow tournament in
Wagrain offered the opportunity of implementation at a larger scale, with even
more people trained to use the system as it was running on three playing courts
simultaneously, and relying on the help of referee Martin Karner for additional
testing.
With a successful experience of
implementation now behind us, the next step is to use the system at a larger
scale during the beach volleyball season coming up in just a few moments,
giving fans an ever growing insight into our sport.
