2019 Snow Volleyball World Tour: interview with Pietro Bruno Cattaneo
2019 Snow Volleyball World Tour
Luxembourg/Lausanne, Switzerland, April 3, 2019. Following the great success of the inaugural FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour first leg in Wagrain-Kleinarl, attention now turns to Plan de Corones/Kronplatz, the winter resort hosting this week’s second leg, from 4 - 7 April, also co-organised with the CEV. The same venue previously hosted stops of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour every year since its inception in 2016.
We have been speaking to the President of the Italian Volleyball Federation, Pietro Bruno Cattaneo, about the growth of the exciting new sport.
Italy has been hosting Snow Volleyball events since 2016. What is it about Snow Volleyball that attracts your National Federation?
I think one of the most impressive aspects of Snow Volleyball is how visually spectacular it is. It is an incredibly athletic discipline which is sure to attract fans, and the venues are truly breathtaking, natural settings. We believe that we should always push the boundaries of our sport and Snow Volleyball is a real representation of this.
The iconic venue hosting Snow Volleyball competition at Plan de Corones/Kronplatz
Plan de Corones/Kronplatz has been hosting Snow Volleyball events for many years. Why do you think local people have bonded with the sport?
They bond with the sport because the mountain resorts are stunning. Sport is also an important drive for local economies, so I think these resorts firmly believe that volleyball is a great opportunity for 360° development.
How do the athletes in Italy feel about the development of Snow Volleyball?
They say it's very cool. There are some similarities with Beach Volleyball, but with other challenges. Of course, you also need to be a mountain lover to try it!
Is CONI, your National Olympic Committee, supporting you in developing Snow Volleyball in Italy?
The National Olympic Committee works daily to help our various federations develop sports. CONI is always ready to listen to new proposals and evaluate the possibility of working together.
Are more people practicing Snow Volleyball in Italy now?
More and more people are hearing about the sport and many are beginning to approach with interest!
Does Snow Volleyball attract fans in Italy? What is appealing to them?
We're just getting started but already at the Italian Volleyball Federation, we are doing everything to ensure that the greatest number of people have the opportunity to play this exciting new sport. There is a lot of work to do, but of course that won't stop us.
