News from the National Federations
Sutrio, Italy, March 14, 2019. Federica Tonon/Martina Tagliapietra and Luca Fazio/Simone Gentile were the eventual winners of the fifth stop of the Acqua San Bernardo Snow Volley Tour, which took place at Monte Zoncolan, where the organisers set up the venue right in front of the popular Baita Goles.
The technical level of the participating teams was very high. Luca Fazio/Simone Gentile won the men’s competition, as they edged Matteo Carlon and Stefano De Monti 2-1 (15-13, 13-15, 15-13). In the women’s 2x2 competition, Federica Tonon and Martina Tagliapietra had an easier run in their final match with Virginia Casella and Jessica Chiesa (2-0; 15-4, 15-7).
“The Acqua San Bernardo Snow Volley Tour is growing with every stage,” says Matteo Carlon, president of Snow Volley Italia, “and it does so both from a technical and a qualitative point of view as well.”
As many as 30 players contested the tournament last weekend. The programme of the event included cheerleading shows, DJ sets, live music and the Miss Blumare beauty contest sponsored by MSC Cruises, who linked their brand to Snow Volleyball activities for the very first time.
Snow Volley Italia organised the event in collaboration with the Lucinico Volleyball Sports Group and Smilevents Apssd Gorizia.
This coming weekend, the Acqua San Bernardo Snow Volley Tour will stop in Valle d’Aosta and namely in Breuil-Cervinia (March 16-17), before the Grand Finale takes place at Prato Nevoso (March 29-31) which, with over 350 participants, has been home to the largest Snow Volleyball event in the world for a number of years already.
This year, Prato Nevoso will also host a stage of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour with athletes from all over the world, including the USA’s McKibbin brothers and Troy Field, all familiar faces from the professional AVP Beach Volleyball circuit.
