Kessler and Allegretti crowned ‘King and Queen of the Mountains’ in Alta Badia
News from the National Federations
Alta Badia, Italy, March 7, 2019. Joshua Kessler and Jessica Allegretti won the first edition of the ‘King and Queen of the Mountains’ tournament, a professional Snow Volleyball exhibition event that took place during the Acqua San Bernardo Snow Volley Tour stop in Alta Badia. Snow Volley Italia was able once again to exceed expectations, delivering an experience that many referred to as “a gem among winter sports events”. The high-level competition took place on the centre court set up in front of the famous Club Moritzino, where top level “snowers” played in front of a numerous and curious crowd.
Joshua Kessler won the ‘King of the Mountains’ title while playing together with Diego Fallace in the finals against Alessandro Carucci, who on the other hand chose Tommaso Pizzileo as his partner.
In the women’s tournament, Jessica Allegretti claimed the ‘Queen of the Mountain’ accolade, after competing along with Michela Lantignotti to edge Carlotta Cervella and Anna Dostalova. The final was a very close affair and it ended after three sets.
The event was a success not only across the Snow Volleyball courts, but off the court too, thanks to the performances of violinist Andrea Casta and DJ Spada, as well as the special evening event organised at the Moritzino Club featuring Italian comedian and actor Jerry Calà.
The competition in Alta Badia featured the best Italian Snow Volleyball players, plus many familiar faces from the Italian Beach Volleyball Championship, as well as some foreign guests who have competed on the European Tour such as Piotr Groszek (POL) and Anna Dostalova (CZE).
“It has been a two-day event filled with entertainment and fun, with a very high-level competition during the finals,” commented Matteo Carlon, president of Snow Volley Italia. “I am convinced that the Acqua San Bernardo Snow Volley Tour is a mix of sport and entertainment that will continue to grow and to give unique emotions, particularly thanks to the locations which are among the most beautiful ski resorts in Italy. The next three stops will be at Zoncolan, Breuil-Cervinia and Prato Nevoso, which are open to all categories and will allow amateurs and professional players to try their hand at this new winter sport.”
After Alta Badia, the Snow Volley Italia crew will move to Zoncolan (9-10 March) in Friuli and then to Breuil-Cervinia (16-17 March) in Valle d’Aosta. The Acqua San Bernardo Tour will end on March 29-31 with the Grand Finale at Prato Nevoso. With over 400 participants, Prato Nevoso has hosted the largest Snow Volleyball event in the world for five years. The last Snow Volleyball event in Italy will be taking place on 4-7 April in Plan de Corones / Kronplatz, home to the 2nd stop of the FIVB / CEV Snow Volleyball World Tour 2019.
