Erciyes/Kayseri, Turkey, February 18, 2017. The 2017 edition of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour got underway on Saturday with the first day of competition at Erciyes, with the perfect background provided by Turkey’s fifth-highest peak (3,917 m). The competition featured 13 men’s and 10 women’s teams who delivered a series of exciting and close matches on the opening day of the much-anticipated tournament, the first of this kind to take place on Turkish soil / snow.
The men’s semi-finals coming up on Sunday will feature as many as four Turkish teams – Murat Giginoglu/Safa Urlu, Hasan Huseyin Mermer/Ali Osman Nurettin, Emir Kavuzlu/Kemal Sah and Dündar Yildirim/Borak Pelenk all progressed through the first stage of the competition. Two more Turkish teams – Aleyna Vence/Nursel Yaren Sencel and Merve Nezir/Esra Betül Cetin – made it through to the semis of the women’s competition together with Romania’s Adriana-Maria Matei/Beata Vaida and Silvia Poszmikova/Eva Elekova of Slovakia.
Temperatures as low as -18°C did not prevent players and fans to enjoy the ambiance and have a great time at the first event of this year’s Snow Volleyball European Tour.
TRT Spor will televise nationwide the final matches coming up on Sunday to crown a truly historic event for Turkey and Snow Volleyball in general.
