Strugar and Scambray seize MVP awards in Swiss national league
News from the National Federations

Bern, Switzerland, March 28, 2021. Bojan Strugar and Tia Scambray have received the awards for the ‘Most Valuable Players’ of the 2020-2021 season after coaches of the teams competing in the highest division of the Swiss national league cast their votes at the end of the main round of the competition. Piero Müller and Annalea Maeder received the “Youngster of the Year” awards, while Sarah van Rooij and Jovan Djokic emerged as the “Best Swiss Players” of the current season.

The United Volleyball Foundation presented the awards on Saturday during the final stage of the Swiss national cup sponsored by la Mobilière held in Winterthur.

Scambray is the undisputed leader of Viteos NEUCHATEL Université – as she has recorded an impressive personal tally of 315 points this season so far. Back in 2019, she helped her team secure a historic treble, as NEUCHATEL claimed the Supercup, national cup and national league titles during the same season. However, on Saturday, the USA outside hitter failed to add another accolade to her resume as NEUCHATEL lost the cup final 2-3 to VC Kanti SCHAFFHAUSEN.

Montenegro’s Bojan Strugar is currently spending his first season with TSV JONA Volleyball. Standing 203cm tall and weighing nearly 100kg, the opposite hitter is the top scorer in this year’s Swiss national league with 233 points. Strugar, who has already played in many countries, has contributed greatly to the success of TSV JONA Volleyball with his prowess this season. On Saturday, he top scored as JONA claimed their first national cup title in dramatic fashion after coming back from two sets down in the matchup with Volley SCHÖNENWERD. Among other things, Strugar was the best scorer of the Finnish national league in the 2019/2020 season.
