OK BUDVA victorious in Montenegro’s national cup final
News from the National Federations

Podgorica/Bar, Montenegro, March 21, 2021. OK BUDVA emerged on Sunday as the eventual winners of the 2020/2021 men’s national cup of Montenegro as Miloš Marković’s team hammered out a comprehensive 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-14) victory over Budućnost Volley in the final held in Bar.

“I would like to congratulate Budućnost on a fair and correct game, and my players on winning the cup. The game was easier than I expected for the simple reason that my players responded and they acted, as they should, professionally and as seriously as possible from the very beginning. In the first two sets, and especially in the second half of those sets, we broke the attacks of Budućnost, before we finished the third set in a much easier way,” said the coach of Budva, Marković.

The president of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG), Cvetko Pajković, presented the trophy to the players of OK BUDVA. Nenad Vujanović, a member of the OSCG Management Board and Igor Vušurović, OSCG Development Manager and Olympic gold medallist in 2000, were those to present the gold medals to the winners of the competition.

In the first set, OK BUDVA claimed an early three-point lead, but their opponents responded well, cutting that deficit a few times. However, they did not have the strength to turn the score around – and the late stages of the opening set fully belonged to OK BUDVA, whose opposite Milutin Pavićević was unstoppable. OK BUDVA were even more dominant in the first part of the second set, where Pavićević ‘destroyed’ his ex-team and prevented his former club from putting up a real fight to tie the score. There was no dilemma in the third set, where OK BUDVA looked in control from start to end.

“It was not as we expected, we did not give our maximum. We made too many mistakes, which did not give us the opportunity to play at the same level of our opponent. Let us move on and focus on the playoffs and the next few games. It was a very hard week for us, it will be same with the next one, but we have to give our best in the final stages of the league,” said Đorđe Jovović, opposite of Budućnost Volley.

Darko Prebiračević and Nemanja Zenović, both members of the OSCG Management Board, presented the silver medals to the players of the losing team.

OK BUDVA opposite Milutin Pavićević received the award for the MVP of the final after scoring 21 points. Veljko Bašić, the head coach of the men’s Volleyball national team of Montenegro, had the honour of presenting this accolade to the star player of OK BUDVA.

“The final match went just great us, since we played very well and could win easily. We beat Budućnost in three sets and we delivered a good game. Congratulations to Budućnost on the resistance that they provided, but I think we are a better and more experienced team. We still have to play the playoffs, and I hope that we can claim another title in the national league,” MVP Pavićević said.
