Sport NI supports Northern Ireland Volleyball through Sustainability Fund
News from the National Federations
Belfast, Northern Ireland, March 9, 2021. Northern Ireland Volleyball are delighted to announce they have been successful in their application for Sport NI’s Sport Sustainability Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to help address the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the sports sector. It is providing the financial interventions needed to stabilise and sustain governing bodies of sport, enabling them to withstand lack of income as a result of coronavirus and the ongoing restrictions.
NI Volleyball Treasurer Johnny McClenaghan said, “Having been without funding since 2013 when we were funded to deliver the World Police and Fire Games, we are delighted to have been successful. The board have spent a lot of time recently working on applications for the Sustainability Fund, the governing body support programme and the COVID-19 safe sports packs, so we are very pleased to see these come to fruition.”
“Sport NI have also presented NI Volleyball with a number of COVID-19 Safe Sports packs which will be used to get the sport up and running again when it is safe to do so and ensure players and staff are safe when participating.”
Department for Communities Minister Dierdre Hargey spoke of the opportunity: “I am delighted that the sports sector is to receive more financial support through the Sports Sustainability Fund. I know that the £25m fund is critical to the sector and that the Governing Bodies and clubs urgently need it. The sector has shown outstanding resilience over the past year particularly when the COVID-19 restrictions decimated their ability to generate their own income through ticket sales, sponsorship, running competitions and hospitality.”
