Snow Volleyball party continues in Wagrain with teams fighting for Austrian national titles
News from the National Federations

Wagrain-Kleinarl, Austria, March 6, 2021. The first day of action at the Austrian Snow Volleyball national championships in Wagrain-Kleinarl exceeded everyone’s expectations – with many exciting matches and the sort of weather that any Snow Volleyball player would only dream about!

A clear blue sky at the ‘Flying Mozart’ Valley Station provided ideal conditions for the teams competing in Wagrain-Kleinarl, where the Snow Volleyball party continues after two weekends of European Tour action. The competition followed the so-called ‘triple elimination’ format, meaning that each one of the participating teams would play at least three matches. The players delivered many great rallies, thus entertaining the fans following the action through the live streaming.

After claiming a sensational silver medal at the first of the two European Tour stops held in Wagrain, Florian Schnetzer, Mathias Seiser and Moritz Fabian Kindl conceded 17 points only to their opponents as they claimed two comprehensive 2-0 wins to secure their spot in the men’s semis. The defending champions Friedl/Trummer/Kopschar/Pascariuc made it to the semi-finals as well, but they lost one set in the process. The teams Sauer/Niederl/Sauer/Pfeifer and Griesmayer/Putz/Hirsch/Lasczovits complete the semi-finals.

The women’s teams fought for every point as well to reach the semis, and of course, the prize money raised to € 4,000 provided an additional motivational boost. Some of the Austrian players had already tested their skills on the snow of Wagrain back in February at the CEV European Tour events. This applies to Fink and Freiberger, who are competing with Schörkhuber at the nationals. The other teams due to contest the semis are Guggi/Puskina/Karjalainen, Preiml/Hollaus/Feichter as well as Hintzsche/Werbik/Rödl.

The organisers expect again ideal weather conditions for Sunday’s semis and medal matches.

Due to the current restrictions in place to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, no fans can attend the competition on site. However, they can follow all of the action through the live streaming available on www.snowvolleyball.com!
