Guidetti to lead ‘Sultans of the Net’ for another Olympic cycle
News from the National Federations
Ankara, Turkey, March 5, 2021. The Turkish Volleyball Federation (TVF) announced on Friday a four-year extension to the contract with Giovanni Guidetti, meaning that the Italian-born coach will remain at the helm of the Turkish women’s national team up until 2024. Guidetti had initially signed a contract with the Turkish Federation back in 2017, which was due to expire later this summer.
“First of all, I would like to thank TVF President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ and the Turkish Federation for the trust they are showing in my work. Many thanks to my staff and my players as well, because I believe we have done good things in the last four years we have spent together. For this reason, the Federation is showing so much trust in us. I feel honoured to continue my work in this position for Turkey because this country has given me everything so far. Therefore, I want to give back as much as I can,” Guidetti said in an interview to the TVF website.
While leading the ‘Sultans of the Net’, Guidetti helped Turkey claim the bronze and silver medal from the 2017 and 2019 editions of EuroVolley and silver in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. Moreover, back in January of last year, Turkey qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after beating Germany 3-0 in the final of the CEV Olympic qualifier held in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Turkey previously qualified for the Olympics only once, doing so in 2012, when they finished ninth in London.
