Shaktior SOLIGORSK claim third straight Belarusian Supercup title
News from the National Federations
Minsk, Belarus, February 21, 2021. The team of Shakhtior SOLIGORSK triumphed this past weekend in the 2020 edition of the Supercup of Belarus – an event originally scheduled for the early days of the current season, but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shakhtior beat rivals Stroitel MINSK 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21) in the match played at the Uruchye Sports Palace in Minsk on Saturday, February 20. The result accounts for the third title in a row for Shakhtior in this competition, after Stroitel claimed the inaugural edition in 2017.
The team from Soligorsk lost the first set, but after that early setback, opposite hitter Uladzislau Babkevich (eventual MVP) and the other experienced players of Shakhtior were able to take important points that allowed them to emerge victorious in the end.
“It was the hardest game of the season! The match was interesting for the fans. Many thanks for their support! We could not use the best line-up, but all the players performed well, especially in the moments when the opponents outplayed us. However, we found the strength to respond and achieved an important victory,” said the head coach of Shakhtior, Viktar Beksha.
In March, the Belarusian championship will start the playoffs. Shaktior and Stroitel are the main contenders for the first place.
