Luxembourg, February 18, 2021. Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia went into the second tournament of the 4th Round of CEV Champions League Volley Pool D occupying the second position, behind fellow Italians from Cucine Lube Civitanova after losing the direct battle earlier in the season.
Going into the match this time around, Lube was already qualified for the quarterfinals of the competition after a win against Tours VB so the pressure was on for Perugia to turn the tables and attempt to move into first spot. And so they did, with the help of an incredible performance from one of their star players, Wilfredo Leon.

Wilfredo Leon the Top Performer of Pool B – Tournament 2
Leon seems to know when to shine the brightest and the match against Civitanova was exactly the moment to do so. The result, a straight sets win that took Perugia first in Pool B after an impressive performance from match MVP Wilfredo Leon who scored a match high of 17 points.
Born in Cuba and now playing for the Polish national team, Wilfredo Leon is one of the best at his job in the world and one of the most successful to have ever done it in Europe’s premiere club competition, managing to win four successive gold medals with Russia’s Zenit Kazan.
For Leon and Perugia the journey continues this season with a match against yet another Italian team, Leo Shoes Modena in the quarterfinals of the CEV Champions League Volley 2021.
