Snow Volleyball national champions crowned in Romania
News from the National Federations
Azuga, Romania, February 10, 2021. After Armenia had delivered their national Snow Volleyball championship in late January, Romania have added themselves to the list of countries where domestic competitions on the snow have resumed despite the many restrictions still in place to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The second edition of the Romanian Snow Volleyball national championship took place this past February 5-7 in Azuga, with the teams representing CSU RESITA claiming top honours in the men’s as well as in the women’s competition.
Robert Varlan, Lucian Badiceanu and Sergiu Calin compose the trio that emerged victorious from the men’s tournament, where CSU RESITA recorded a 2-0 victory (15-13, 15-13) in the gold medal match against CS Rapid BUCURESTI. Tomis CONSTANTA completed the podium following their 2-1 victory over CSU ASE BUCURESTI in the small final.
A ‘mixed’ team representing CSU RESITA / CSM TIMISOARA, comprising of Denisa Popa, Adriana Melniciuc and Ioana Bobei triumphed in the women’s tournament following a 15-12, 15-11 victory in the final versus CSU ASE BUCURESTI. The team of CS Westar ARAD III claimed the bronze medal.
Romanian teams have competed in international Snow Volleyball competitions almost since the very early days of the European Tour. They achieved much success in 2017 when Adriana-Maria Matei and Beata Vaida won gold at both Turkish stops of the European Tour held that winter in Erciyes and Uludag.
