Luxembourg, January 30, 2021. Men’s Pool A of the CEV Champions League Volley came to a close on Thursday with the last matches of the second tournament taking place in Belchatow, Poland. After a dominating performance during the first tournament of the pool, when they managed three wins without losing a set, Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN KOŹLE continued to impress as they marched on to gather six wins and 17pts, winning the pool and remaining unbeaten.
After becoming the first team to book a place in the Quarter-Finals of the CEV Champions League, the Polish team coached by Nikola Grbić will now be patiently waiting to find out who their opponents will be.
Aleksander Śliwka leading the lines for Grupa Azoty
With so many unbelievably talented players on the roster, each of them contributing greatly to the team’s performance this season, it was not easy for any single player to attract people’s attention, however Aleksander Śliwka managed to do just that and more. After missing out on the first match of the 4th Round, the 25-year-old Polish outside spiker came into the team and put his stamp on the matches with consistently solid performances.
A World Champion with Poland in 2018 and a bronze medalist at EuroVolley 2019, Aleksander Śliwka is in his third season with Grupa Azoty, a team with which he has found success at a domestic level, winning the Polish Championship (2018/19) and the Cup (2018/18 - Most Valuable Player) once, and the Polish SuperCup twice.
We will be keeping an eye out on Aleksander for the Quarter-Finals of the CEV Champions League Volley, until then here is how he achieved the Top Performance of the second tournament in Pool A.
