UVF President, EEVZA Vice-President Mykhaylo Melnyk turns 60
News from the Zonal Associations

Kyiv, Ukraine, January 26, 2021. The President of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation (UVF) and Vice-President of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA), Mr Mykhaylo Melnyk, turns 60 today. The whole EEVZA Volleyball family congratulates him on this special occasion, wishing him success in all of his current and future endeavours.

A former international referee, a status he reached in 1998 after attending a course in Sofia, Melnyk has been the President of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation since 2016. Under his leadership and tenure, the Eastern European country has achieved unprecedented success on the international stage, with the men’s and women’s national teams claiming top honours from the 2017 edition of the CEV European League. Back in 2019, Ukraine reached the quarterfinals of CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men, finishing the competition in seventh place after losing only at the tiebreak to eventual gold medal winners Serbia. This accounts for Ukraine’s second best result in the history of the competition after a sixth place claimed in 1993.

Last year, Ukrainian teams were absolutely dominant at #EuroBeachVolleyU18 in Izmir, Turkey, where they secured both the men’s and women’s titles – as well as a silver medal from the women’s competition. Moreover, Ukraine claimed a bronze medal from the women’s competition of #EuroBeachVolleyU20 in Brno, Czech Republic.

Apart from leading the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation, Mr Melnyk is a member of the CEV European Sports Organising Commission (ESOC) for the 2020-2024 term as well as a member of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

Happy 60th birthday Mykhaylo!
