Getting to know – Krystal Rivers
CEV Champions League Volley 2021 - Women
Luxembourg/Berlin, Germany, January 15, 2021. The German Volleyball League / Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) recently released a truly inspirational video recounting the unique story of Krystal Rivers, the American opposite hitter of Allianz MTV STUTTGART. The video is a truly emotional one, reviewing how Krystal has managed to cope with many adversities and a series of challenges since her childhood – to continue with a cancer diagnosis back in 2014.
After graduating from the University of Alabama, Rivers moved to Europe to join the ranks of BEZIERS Angels in France, but she eventually found a real ‘home’ in Stuttgart, where she has been playing for three seasons now, contributing in an enormous way to the team’s success in domestic as well as in international competitions. With her help, back in 2019, Allianz MTV STUTTGART became the very first women’s team from Germany to reach the quarterfinals of the elite CEV Champions League Volley.
However, life has never been easy for Rivers, but she soon found in her brother a role model and someone who would somehow pave the way towards her involvement in competitive sport. In challenging times such as those we have been living in since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Krystal’s story is truly inspirational and motivational. “There is a way to use the support around you, so stay positive and no matter what is in front of you, you can always find a way around it,” Rivers says.

Rivers is currently the second best scorer halfway through the pool stage of the CEV Champions League Volley 2021 on a personal tally of 59 points, second only to Magdalena Stysiak of Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI (63). Rivers and Allianz MTV STUTTGART will resume their quest for a spot in the quarterfinals in early February in Kaliningrad, playing hosts Lokomotiv as well as another two elite teams – Russia’s Dinamo MOSCOW and Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL of Turkey.
