Volleyball returns in Armenia with U15 competition held in Yerevan
News from the National Federations
Yerevan, Armenia, December 6, 2020. The 2020 edition of the U15 volleyball championship involving teams from the Armenian capital city took place this past weekend in Yerevan with participation of four teams per gender. This youth tournament was the first indoor Volleyball competition held since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic earlier this year.
The teams had very little time to prepare due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the Nagorno-Karabakh war that obviously caused further disruptions and constraints across the Caucasus country. However, they fought bravely and delivered high-level matches to celebrate the return of competitive Volleyball in Armenia.
The matches featuring young girls were especially intense. The team of Avan Sports School emerged as the eventual champions, with teams Shengavit and Geghashen finishing second and third, respectively.
Team Ajapnyak were the winners of the boys’ tournament, with Shengavit and Arabkir completing the podium.
The winning teams received diplomas, medals, and cups, with the best individual players of the tournament presented with special gifts prepared by the Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) for the occasion.
Next week the 2020 U15 Armenian national championship will be taking place in Etchmiadzin, a city regarded as the spiritual capital of Armenia.
