MAASEIK sends rays of hope with 2,600 candles placed on stands of Steengoed Arena
News from the clubs
Maaseik, Belgium, December 1, 2020. Due to the restrictions introduced in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, matches in the Belgian national league are taking place without any fans. This was especially tough to experience last Saturday, when VC Greenyard MAASEIK played their traditionally much awaited regional derby against Tectum ACHEL.
At a time when supporters chase the darkness of long winter nights with festive moments such as Halloween, the arrival of the children’s friend Saint Nicolaus and Christmas, they cannot attend any large gatherings. They Maaseik fans obviously miss the ambiance and positive vibes that they feel at the home matches of their favourite team.
However, the Belgian club found a solution for the fans who were able to watch the game on the local TV channel TV Limburg. The volunteers of the club created a fairy tale atmosphere by lighting 2,600 candles on the seats of the Steengoed Arena. The unique light effect commemorated the victims of the pandemic, and at the same time sent a message of hope, light and warmth to the club members, the fans, the sponsors, all volleyball lovers, and ultimately to the whole world. Stay safe and stay healthy!
