News from the clubs

Novosibirsk, Russia, October 8, 2020. Russia’s heavyweight Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK hosted this past Saturday, October 3, the official grand opening of the regional volleyball centre Lokomotiv-Arena. Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrey Travnikov, as well as the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin, plus the President of the Board of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov, and the Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Novosibirsk Region, three-time Olympic champion Alexander Karelin, were among the high-profile guests to attend the ceremony.

The facility, which is going to host matches of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, is the ‘new home’ to reigning Russian national champions Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK. The centre will host their home matches in the already started Russian Championship, as well as in the elite CEV Champions League, which they won in 2013.

The Lokomotiv-Arena is the largest sports venue beyond the Ural Mountains, with a capacity of up to 5,000 spectators. The construction began in the summer of 2018 and finished in September of 2020. The multi-purpose venue lies on a plot of more than four hectares, and it soon will become the centre of the city’s sports and cultural life.

The regional volleyball centre consists of two buildings: a three-story one, which hosts the main arena, and a two-story training hall. The centre is equipped in accordance with the most modern standards and fulfils the requirements for many international competitions. There are two playing courts with artificial surface, two gyms, changing rooms, the necessary rooms for coaches, judges, anti-doping, as well as a medical recovery centre. There is a press centre, press stands and a press conference room to provide ideal working conditions for the representatives of national and international media.

An upgraded lighting system is available in the arena, which provides a high-quality TV picture, but does not disturb players during their matches. Modern LED screens are working around the perimeter of the arena during the game. There is an information television system as well, so everything that happens during the match is shown on special screens. Viewers do not miss any important moments even if they go to the lobby or cafe. The new sports venue lies at the very heart of the city and the lakeside promenade will be a place for walking for Novosibirsk citizens and foreign guests. It is possible to set up Volleyball courts where people can spend their free time.
