Anti-coronavirus measures discussed at EEVZA virtual meeting
News from the Zonal Associations
Riga, Latvia, September 26, 2020. The Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) held this past Thursday, September 24, an online meeting through videoconference with participation of representatives from all of their member countries.
Due to the many restrictions still in place resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, the EEVZA Executive Committee decided against the organisation of an EEVZA plenary meeting in conjunction with the CEV General Assembly due to take place this coming October 16 in Vienna, Austria. However, in order to discuss a few urgent items and to take some important decisions, an online meeting took place instead, focussing on the upcoming EEVZA zonal competitions, the approval of the Financial Report 2019 as well as of the budget 2020 – plus a number of other topics on the agenda.
The attendees agreed to cancel the last (and only one remaining) stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour scheduled to take place in Batumi, Georgia, in order to protect the health of the players and everyone associated with the sport. Moreover, taking into account the effects of the pandemic, the EEVZA members agreed to change the organisers of this year’s zonal age-group Volleyball championships, with these tournaments counting as the first round of qualifications for next year’s U16 Women and U17 Men European Championships. These events will be taking place in Latvia and Georgia, respectively.
The delegates approved the EEVZA Hygiene Guidelines adopted for all EEVZA competitions held in times of coronavirus; the legislation and rules set by the national authorities of the countries due to host EEVZA competitions complement these guidelines.
After approving the Financial Report 2019 as well as the budget for 2020, the attendees discussed a proposal submitted by the Estonian Volleyball Federation, eventually agreeing that EEVZA will cover some of the costs linked to the performance of COVID-19 tests upon arrival of the teams participating in zonal competitions in times of coronavirus pandemic.
