Luxembourg, September 22, 2020. With a new season of the CEV Champions League Volley scheduled to start today with matches from the various Pools across the 1st Round of the men's competition, in the midst of an uncertain situation caused by the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, unfortunate news comes from Zagreb, the location of the first Pool A tournament.
Due to several positive test results within the team and the quarantine imposed by national authorities, Mladost Zagreb can not play their home matches as well as those originally due to take place in Kaposvar. For the two other teams from Pool A, Erzeni Shijakut and Fino Kaposvar VC, the competition continues as they will face each other for a spot in the 2nd Round.
In Pool C, due to the late provision of their COVID-19 test results, OK Ribola Kastela could not play the first match of the tournament taking place in Galati, Romania. As a result of the forfeit by the Croatian team, CSM Arcada Galati claimed a 3-0 victory and three points for the standing in the pool. The remaining matches in Pool C will be taking place as originally planned.
In the women's competition, due to positive COVID-19 tests and the resulting restrictions, the teams of Minchanka Minsk and Mladost Zagreb have had to forfeit their 1st Round ties against Allianz MTV Stuttgart and Calcit Volley Kamnik respectively. Thus, Allianz MTV Stuttgart and Calcit Volley Kamnik will be moving forward into the 2nd Round.
