The Game Plan – Introducing Volleyball England’s new strategy
News from the National Federations

Loughborough, England, September 14, 2020. Clubs, volleyball pathways and a suite of enhanced products and services are at the heart of Volleyball England’s new 10-year strategy to strengthen the sport in England.

Launched on Monday, September 14, ‘The Game Plan’ aims to shape the National Governing Body (NGB) into an organisation that is better connected to the Volleyball community, more commercially savvy and more innovative.

Key stakeholders were consulted on this new strategic plan, which builds on the work in recent years to make Volleyball England more sustainable and upward looking after a period of repair and rebuild. An existing strategy was set to run until 2021 but recent changes, most notable the shift in how NGBs are funded, has prompted its revision.

Focus
Three strategic priorities form the cornerstone of ‘The Game Plan’:
•    Volleyball for Life: to better understand, articulate and promote the opportunities that Volleyball provides for anyone, at any stage of their life. This covers players, coaches, officials and volunteers.
•    Get. Keep. Grow: to strengthen the English Volleyball club structure by working hand in hand with clubs to help them achieve their ambitions.
•    An Ace Service: to work collaboratively to deliver and continuously improve the products and services that most benefit our clubs and the wider volleyball community, while also ensuring they provide healthy revenue streams that enable reinvestment in the sport.

While it focuses on strengthening the core structure of the English volleyball pyramid, Volleyball England will continue to support athlete development through performance pathways, providing aspiring athletes with ways of reaching their potential.

By working with volleyball associations and key partners such as the Volleyball England Foundation, these priorities will give Volleyball England the focus needed to lead the growth and improvement of Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Sitting Volleyball in England. The goal is for this growth to come about through greater retention.

Sue Storey, Chief Executive of Volleyball England, said: “I am delighted to finally be able to introduce Volleyball England’s new strategy. This marks the start of an exciting new chapter, one in which we have a new focus and understanding of what we are working towards. We have lived through some turbulent times in recent years and months, and now is the time to start being more ambitious as we look into the future and to work collaboratively to ensure this fantastic sport achieves its potential.”
