BIH team captain Sara Glibić a role model on and off the court
CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship 2020
Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, August 24, 2020. Sara Glibić, captain of the U19 national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is the leader of a generation of young Volleyball players in her country. This 184-cm tall girl from Visegrad was born on January 24, 2002 and plays as an outside hitter. After successful performances in the team of OK HE on the Drina, Visegrad, she moved to the best Bosnian team of ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo Brcko. For her, it is certainly a challenge to perform with the so-called ‘Brcani princesses’, current and 13 times in a row champions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“My love for Volleyball came when I was eight years old. When I started training, I had no idea that one day I would have had the opportunity to play for my country. The love for the most beautiful sport for women appeared even before I started training, and not only did it not stop, but it is getting bigger and bigger every day. Today I am here, along with 11 other girls, to represent our country at the European Championship,” Sara says. “We are aware that it will not be easy, but we are also ready to defeat all our opponents, we are looking forward to the beginning, but also to the outcome of the championship.”
Considering that they spent the previous month together, but also the previous two years, when they played in the same team, Sara says that they met each other both on the court and privately, and she thinks they are a quality team.
“We are aware that there are many quality teams, but we are not afraid of going out on the court and playing the way only we know. The atmosphere on the court is great, as well as our communication with each other, but also with the coaches. We have great people, who lead our team and push us to the very top. In addition to all the beautiful things that are happening to us, and that are in front of us, during the preparations, several girls had injuries that did not slow us down, but encouraged us to get up even stronger, with a greater desire to ‘break’ every game ahead,” Glibić adds.
BIH head coach Natmir Buljubasic praises the captain of his team for her behaviour on and off the court
In addition to her, the team selected by head coach Natmir Buljubasic includes Irena Vukoje, Anastazija Celar, Sara Garic, Sara Markovic, Nikolina Albijanic, Neira Joldic, Katarina Popic, Amina Buljubasic, Amina Halilovic, Ana Marija Topalovic and Nastja Ilic.
Coach Natmir Buljubasic has only words of praise for Sara. “I am new here, since I came after the resignation of Erna Marevac. I have been working with young players all my life. At the Balkan Championships, I saw Sara Glibić on the court for the first time and I realised how much of a fighter she is. Later, I had the opportunity to play against her with my team ŽOK Smeč. Now I got the opportunity to work together in the national team. Believe me, Sara can be an example to all athletes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from her behaviour both on and off the court,” Buljubasic pointed out.
