Getting to know - Serbian rising star Vanja Savić
CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship 2020
Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, August 24, 2020. Vanja Savić, captain of the U19 women’s national team of Serbia, is one of the most talented young players in Europe. This girl from the city of Čačak was born on May 13, 2002, and she is 193 cm tall; she plays as opposite and she has a truly devastating spike.
Vanja is the younger daughter of a once successful basketball player, now coach, Sasa Savić. She initially played for OK Sloboda S with the famous Serbian Volleyball coach Radovan Majstorović Libec, and then moved to OK Jedinstvo from Stara Pazova.
“As a child, I always watched Volleyball and even then I knew that it was a sport I would like to play. Since I come from a sports family, discipline and sports lifestyle have never been foreign and unknown to me. My father has a great influence on me when it comes to playing sports, because he transfers his knowledge and experience in sports to me every day,” Vanja says.

“I am currently playing for Jedinstvo Stara Pazova, where I moved after winning the junior championship of Serbia with the Omladinac team. I am looking forward to returning to the club after this European Championship. The expectations are for better results and successes with the club in the coming season. I hope that the situation with the coronavirus will not prevent us from doing that,” she adds.
Being the captain of the Serbian junior national team is, she says, a great honour for her. She is glad, she points out, that she can be a part and leader of this great and talented team. “As for the European Championship, we go step by step from game to game, and we do not think too much about the final result. Of course, we all secretly want a medal and we will try to show the best possible performance in order to achieve that goal,” she concludes.
