After achieving unprecedented success, Mykhailo Melnyk to lead Ukrainian Volleyball family for another term
News from the National Federations
Truskavets, Ukraine, August 10, 2020. The XXVI General Assembly of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation (UVF) took place in Truskavets this past Saturday, August 8, where the delegates unanimously noted and praised the enormous progress made by the Ukrainian Volleyball family over the last four years under the leadership of UVF President Mykhailo Melnyk.
The attendees agreed that the organisation of domestic competitions has risen to a much higher level, stressed the appearance of new, very ambitious clubs in the country, as well as the positive developments registered when it comes to growing the game at the grassroots level.
Major highlights from the last four years included the double gold medal claimed by the Ukrainian national teams in the 2017 edition of the CEV European League and last year’s CEV EuroVolley 2019 Men, where Team Ukraine reached the quarterfinals, losing only to eventual gold medal winners Serbia.
Mykhailo Melnyk will remain at the helm of the Ukrainian Volleyball family for another four years
Therefore, it did not come as a surprise that out of 26 collegial members of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation, as many as 18 nominated Mykhailo Melnyk to run for another term at the helm of the organisation. There were no other candidates at all. As elections followed, out of 80 delegates in attendance, as many as 79 voted in favour of Melnyk, and the remaining ballot was void.
Thus, Melnyk will continue to work as UVF President for the next four years. It is worth noting that the first person to congratulate him was the President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, track and field legend Serhiy Bubka. Ms Kateryna Biliachenko will continue to hold the position of Secretary General after receiving a full batch of 80 votes.
