Ben Patch to spend another year with the BR Volleys
News from the clubs
Berlin, Germany, August 6, 2020. Benjamin Patch will spend another season with Germany’s Volleyball heavyweight BERLIN Recycling Volleys.
Patch is a true Volleyball superstar, who has achieved much success with Team USA as well as with the BR Volleys. Moreover, he has an undeniable charisma and his personality stands out on and off the Volleyball court as well. “With his style of play and his appearance, Ben is a figurehead for us and the Volleyball Bundesliga as well. It takes players like him to make our sport more popular. He is incredibly popular in the club as well as among fans,” says managing director Kaweh Niroomand about the opposite hitter.
“There is actually no limit to his athleticism. We will work together to get more out of him,” says BR Volleys head coach Cedric Enard, who is aware of Ben’s outstanding jumping ability.
An injury suffered in December prevented Patch from contesting the most important matches in the group stage of the CEV Champions League. The BR Volleys eventually did not reach the quarterfinals of the competition before the international and domestic season ended abruptly due to the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis.
“The BR Volleys are a great place for me to stay before the Olympics,
especially through the games in the Champions League. That was an
important reason for me to extend the contract. New personalities in the
team are always great and exciting. Anton [Brehme] is the future when
it comes to the middle position and the Brazilian [Renan Michelucci]
will also do us good because they are always positive, work hard and can
usually dance well,” Patch says.
Earlier this year, we had a nice chat with Patch from his home in the USA where he shared many insights into his life off the Volleyball court and how much he has been enjoying life in Berlin – a cosmopolitan city where he literally feels at home.
