Veljkovic and Lisinac to welcome their first child in February 2021
News from the National Federations

Luxembourg, August 5, 2020. Volleyball golden couple Stefana Veljkovic and Srecko Lisinac are looking forward to the birth of their first child. The reigning European and World champion Veljkovic shared the news earlier this week in an interview with sportklub.rs.

Stefana is currently spending time at her hometown of Jagodina, hoping to join her partner Srecko in Trento – once Serbian citizens will be able to travel to Italy again. At this stage, restrictions in place to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus prevent people from a number of Balkan countries to enter the territory of Italy.

The middle blocker, a winner of the CEV Champions League Volley in 2019 with Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA, was obviously happy to announce her pregnancy. “Yesterday I started the fourth month and for this reason Srecko and I would like to share such wonderful news. We never liked to talk much about our private life. Anyway, the news is good, and if everything goes well, I will deliver a baby boy in February,” Stefana said.

Veljkovic used the opportunity to discuss her future, the re-scheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics and her career as well: “The nausea has passed, and I have to admit it, it was terrible. Now I am fine, and I could even train. As for the plans, my biggest desire is to recover quickly after giving birth and to play at the Olympic Games. However, since these are serious things, I would not make any too specific plans, especially in this pandemic time. In any case, I have not finished my career in competitive sport.”

Stefana is a two-time European champion (2017, 2019), a world champion (2018), and an Olympic silver medallist (2016) as well. She is a key member of the Serbian national team that has cemented its status as the leading force on the international stage. At the club level, after playing in her native Serbia for Postar and Crvena Zvezda Beograd, she has spent most of her career in Italy and Poland, with one brief stint in Turkey as well playing for Galatasaray for one season.
