Ricardo Maldonado new head coach of the Red Lynxes
News from the National Federations
Madrid, Spain, July 1, 2020. The Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) have announced the appointment of Ricardo Maldonado as the new head coach of their men’s national team, with the first immediate goal securing qualification for the 2021 edition of EuroVolley.
Maldonado has already enjoyed a long and truly successful coaching career. Born in Cordoba, Argentina, Maldonado has been responsible for running the permanent training camp in the city of Palencia for more than a decade, doing so in three different periods. Under his tenure, Spanish teams have achieved excellent results and he has helped detect and grow some very talented players in the process. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of the Red Lynxes – the nickname of the Spanish men’s national team – have come from this sort of ‘factory’, working there under the guidance of Maldonado.
“My first words are of gratitude for the trust that the RFEVB has shown in me once again. I have had a long and very positive professional relation with the Federation for many years,” Ricardo Maldonado said in his first statement after his appointment. “I am very excited to start this journey with a group of players, many of whom I know since they were young, but who are already outstanding athletes. I would like to help them, once again, realise their dreams.”
Spain’s road to EuroVolley 2021 takes to Cyprus where in late August / early September the Red Lynxes will be playing the hosts and the national teams of Latvia and Moldova in an effort to secure their participation in the next edition of the continental championship.
