Nothing stands in the way of the resumption of Beach Volleyball in Switzerland
News from the National Federations
Bern, Switzerland, May 30, 2020. After the Federal Council’s decision of May 27, 2020, it is clear that the Beach Volleyball season can begin – at least in Switzerland. Volleyball and Beach Volleyball players are slowly returning to their ordinary routines.
As of June 6, the Swiss authorities have authorised the resumption of sports activities – training as well as competition, without any restrictions to the size of the groups involved. The Swiss authorities have allowed for the organisation of events assembling up to 300 people as well, while making sure that the organisers and participants respect all relevant precautions.
The Beach Volleyball season can therefore start by mid-June. “We are working flat out to adapt the protection concepts to the new conditions or to create additional protection concepts where necessary. We also prepare tools for the clubs and organisers so that nothing should stand in the way of the start of the Beach Volleyball season,” says Philippe Saxer, director of Beach Volleyball at Swiss Volley.
The prerequisite for the Coop Beach Tour, the highest national Beach Volleyball series, is different. This has been attracting thousands of spectators to the beach arenas in Swiss cities every year for over 20 years. A Coop Beach Tour as planned is not feasible under the currently applicable requirements of the Federal Council. On June 24, 2020, the Federal Council will decide on the further procedures to follow for events with up to 1,000 people and the further easing of the measures in place. A decision on the Coop Beach Tour 2020 will therefore follow at a later stage.
The training is due to resume indoors as well. The regional and national Volleyball championships do not start until autumn, which is why Swiss Volley assumes that they will start as planned.
