“Turn this time into an opportunity to improve yourselves” - Saliha Şahin
News from the clubs
Istanbul, Turkey, April 19, 2020. At 21 years of age, outside hitter Saliha Şahin is one of the youngest members of Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL, one of three star-studded teams representing Turkey in the 2020 edition of the CEV Champions League Volley – Women. Like her teammates and all of us, Saliha is trying to find a way to deal with the lockdown measures imposed by national authorities in an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
“Since this period started, when working out at home, I have been focusing on the idea that this is a good chance for me to strengthen my body, working especially on those parts where I have suffered injuries,” Saliha recounts. “Before the rather abrupt stop to the season, I suffered a slight hamstring injury. Therefore, I have been doing some hamstring exercises with a mini band for recovery. My home workout programme also contains a variety of exercises for my quadriceps, as well as abs and shoulders, which I need to keep strong all the time. Following the programme that my coaches have prepared, I try to keep my body ready for when competitive Volleyball returns,” she continues.
Despite everything and living such challenging times, Saliha takes some positives from the home confinement. “It makes me happy to be with my family, siblings and kittens during this time. We spend a lot of time together during the day. After I feed my kittens and have breakfast with my family, I start to do my home workout. The rest of my time, we clean the house with my family, or usually watch movies, dramas, documentaries with my siblings. We cook, play games like taboo and okay or dance together,” she says.
“It has been and it is a tough period for all of us but we can turn it into an advantage and an opportunity to improve ourselves. Please respect the rules and stay home to protect yourself and your loved ones,” Şahin concludes.
