BLAJ, GALATI crowned Romanian champions
News from the National Federations
Bucharest, Romania, April 11, 2020. The coronavirus pandemic has brought to a halt Volleyball competitions across the world and Romania was not an exception to this trend due to the global impact of the disease. The Romanian Volleyball Federation was among the first ones to cancel the remainder of their competitive season, ‘freezing’ the standings at the end of the regular season. This means that C.S.M. Volei Alba BLAJ (pictured) and C.S. Municipal Arcada GALATI retain the women’s and men’s title, respectively, thus securing their fifth and second domestic crown as well.
Interestingly, the standings at the end of the first phase of the national championship reflect those of March 18, i.e. when the Romanian Volleyball Federation suspended the competition after two stages of the play-offs. BLAJ and GALATI are due to represent Romania in the 2021 edition of the CEV Champions League Volley, after doing so earlier this season as well.
Moreover, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Romanian Federation decided to cancel the final stages of the National Cup as well, with the title remaining vacant.
