“Be active, find positives from staying at home” - Eczacibasi middle Beyza Arıcı
News from the clubs

Istanbul, Turkey, April 5, 2020. How does a professional Volleyball player spend her time productively these days without playing Volleyball? Middle blocker Beyza Arıcı, a member of the star-studded team of Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL, has accepted to share with us her life in the middle of the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Before the coronavirus outbreak, we had a very busy schedule. After a season full of training sessions and games, it is an unfamiliar situation for us to stay at home all the time and not having any training. It is not mentally easy but I spend my days at home, trying to make these productive and delightful ones both physically and mentally,” she says.

“As daily exercises, I have been following the programme that our fitness coach has prepared. Moreover, I need to take care of my shoulder during this period. That is why I focus more on shoulder exercises. I am trying to turn this period into an advantage by focusing on my body and nursing my injuries,” she continues.

Together with Eczacibasi, Beyza claimed the silver medal at the last edition of the FIVB Club World Championship held in December in China and had reached the quarterfinals of the CEV Champions League before the competition had to come to a halt because of the pandemic.

“I spend the rest of my time at home watching movies and reading books. I will do the Higher Education Foundations Examination this summer. Therefore, I am studying every day by doing multiple-choice exams – just as I did in my high school years. Most of the nights I play different games with my family, like okay, UNO cards, jenga, monopoly or backgammon. Honestly, I do not feel bored at home. Actually, I do not even realise how quickly the time passes by. My biggest challenge is not being able to go outside and continue my work and social life,” adds the 24-year-old middle blocker, whose resume includes a silver medal from the inaugural Volleyball Nations League with the national team of Turkey.

“However, health always comes first. I believe that we have realised what is important for our lives and discovered the beautiful aspects of our world. We have moved away from thinking individually and self-oriented. I invite all fans to stay at home during this time. We can find joyful sides to the confinement, by spending time at home and developing new hobbies. Please do not give up on doing sports and stay active. Let’s believe with all our patience and positive energy that these days will be gone soon,” she concludes.
